World Marriage Day

Date: 02/14/2010 09:30:00 AM

Details:

As part of our 125th Anniversary Celebration, there will be a special celebration of World Marriage Day, which is held each year on the second Sunday in February.

The idea of celebrating marriage began in Baton Rouge, LA, in 1981, when couples encouraged the mayor, the governor, and the bishop to proclaim St. Valentine’s Day as “We Believe in Marriage Day”. The event was so successful, the day was presented to and adopted by Worldwide Marriage Encounter’s national leadership. By 1982, 43 Governors officially proclaimed the day and celebrations spread to US military bases in several foreign countries. In 1983, the name was changed to “World Marriage Day”, designated to be celebrated each year on the second Sunday in February. In 1993, his Holiness, Pope John Paul II, imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day.

As part of our 125th Anniversary celebration, there will be a special celebration of World Marriage Day. All married couples are invited to a special liturgy on Sunday, February 14 at 9:30 AM, during which time these couples will be invited to renew the commitment to their marriage. Following the liturgy, there will be a champagne brunch for the couples in the parish social center. At the same time, there will be a special breakfast for your children in the gym, followed by games and other activities.

Invitations have been sent in the mail. If you did not receive one and wish to attend, please contact the parish office (610.525.0147) by Sunday, February 7 to make a reservation for the brunch.
