Resettled Legal Regugees

Help is Needed

An advocate for refugees at HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) contacted the office of President Peter Donahue, OSA at Villanova. That advocate, David Broida, invited Villanova and the Augustinians to join him in a mission for which David has already had considerable success.

He begs for used but workable cell phones, tablets and laptops. David knows the needs of legal refugee families in the Philadelphia area and he matches the specific gift with the needs of the mother, father or children who should have these items. The children tend to need the tablets and laptops for school, and mothers tend to need the phones. The items must be in working condition with passwords deleted.

Fr. Peter’s office, knowing that I have some experience with resettling refugees, contacted me to invite my help. I have the cooperation of Villanova University’s Peace and Justice Program and its Catholic Relief Services officer. I am asking the cooperation of the parishioners at Our Mother of Good Counsel.

If you are willing to donate one of these items, please leave it at the parish office during regular office hours or give it to me - joseph.betz@villanova.edu. I anticipate that we will receive enough of these items to share them with refugees sponsored by the Archdiocese and First Place in Ardmore. Please include your name and email address with the item. Thank you.
