Take Up Your Cross!
Dear Friends,
Some of Jesus’ teachings really grab hold of me. In the midst of my daily living, I find myself frequently reflecting on them. This Sunday’s Gospel proclaims one of them. Jesus declares, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
Perhaps what really strikes me the most is what Jesus does not say. He doesn’t tell us that we have to go look for our cross. He doesn’t tell us that we have to prayerfully discern what our cross is. He doesn’t explain why our cross exists. Nope, He simply tells us that, if we want to follow Him, we have to pick it up - daily. Each day our cross is right there, waiting to be picked up.
Life’s crosses come in many shapes and sizes: sickness, the death of loved ones, sin, financial woes, broken relationships, and many more. They can be light and they can be very heavy. Before picking up His cross, Jesus shared the Eucharist with His followers. He invites us to do the same today.
Only when we pick up our crosses are we on the way to be freed of them. For Jesus and His followers, the Cross is not the end of the story. Rather, it is the way to Resurrection and new life.

Morning Prayer at OMGC
Here at Our Mother of Good Counsel, each Monday through Saturday morning, we celebrate Morning Prayer in common following the 8:00am Mass. Everyone is invited (around 8:30am) to join us in the daily chapel for this beautiful way to begin the day!
