The Scandal, the Coverup, Reconciliation, and Reparations

Dear Friends,

Back on October 7, Dr. Patricia Kelly led about 60 parishioners in a difficult but meaningful conversation about the scandal and coverup. I believe it helped us express the pain, confusion and frustration that we are feeling. It helped us to listen to and try to support each other. This crisis affects us deeply and in many different ways. We will be dealing with this for a long time.  My hope is that it makes us a more compassionate, a more caring church.

I am grateful to a Shelley Preston and John Kelly who have organized a second gathering with Dr. Kelly scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 2 from 2 PM until 4 PM in our Social Center.  I hope many will be able to attend.

We continue to pray for the victim-survivors, for each other and for the entire Catholic Church during this difficult time.

Today, Archbishop Chaput published a letter and an announcement concerning the direction the Archdiocese is taking to provide support for those who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of its clergy and lay employees.

The archdiocese has asked me to distribute these documents to parish members.  Please take a look at them.
