There are lots of ways in which you can help, and here you will see just some of the many different opportunities available from Our Mother of Good Counsel and local community programs. This list is far from complete, so if you know of any other opportunities, please email us!

If you would like to join other parishioners to promote faith and service through one of our parish programs, or just help out wherever you can, please click here to see our online form!

VOLUNTEERS

Main Line Meals on Wheels needs volunteers on weekdays to help pack and deliver meals to the homebound in the Main Line area. You would report to their office at Bryn Mawr Hospital at 9:30 a.m. to pack or 10:30 a.m. to deliver. The deliveries generally take about an hour and a half to complete. You can volunteer on a regular basis (i.e. weekly, every other week, monthly) or as a substitute. For additional information, call 610-526-3097.

Shopping Assistance Needed

We are looking for “shopping” volunteers to assist a woman parishioner who is blind with her grocery shopping. It would involve driving her to the local Acme, assisting in shopping and then helping her put the items away. The volunteer time commitment is a few hours a couple times a year. If you are interested in helping, please contact Karen Fitch at 610-527-8193.

H.O.P.E. Drivers Needed

Each summer, we are in need of additional drivers because some of our regular drivers are away during this time. If you can afford some time during the summer months: June, July and August so that we can contact you if and when parishioners need a ride to doctor appointments, a hospital visit or shopping, please contact Sr. Anne by phone (610.525.0147 Ext 234) or email. Thank you.

Hospitality Helpers

Periodically throughout the year, our parish provides a simple reception after an event of special importance. Setting up for the receptions has fallen on the members of the Parish Council. We would like to form a group of men and women in the parish whom we could call on to help us set up for the reception in either our gym or social center, host the event, and assist in cleaning up afterwards. All of these events, (maybe 4 or 5 a year) usually occur on weekends. If you would like to offer your time and talent to this parish endeavor of hospitality and community building, the Parish Council and Parish Staff would be very grateful. If you can help, please email Lois Carita, President of the Parish Council,  or contact Sr. Anne by phone (610.525.0147 Ext 234) or email.

Hosts for Hospitals

Hosts for Hospitals is a nonprofit agency that provides free lodging and support at volunteer-host homes as a caring response to the housing needs of patients and their families who come to our area for specialized medical care. Being a host is easy, as you only have to provide a clean bathroom, a comfortable bed and a feeling of home. You only lodge guests whom you want, when you want and for how long you want. Guests themselves are responsible for their own food and transportation. If you or someone you know may be interested in learning more about becoming a host family, or about HfH in general, please email Tammy Forstater or visit www.HostsForHospitals.org.

Book Collection

The Religious Education Program is working in conjunction with a Villanova student who is collecting new and gently used books of ALL kinds and for ALL ages for a program in Northern Uganda. If you find gently used books at home, or if when doing your shopping, you would like to purchase some new books, please do so and drop the books off in the school building on Sunday mornings. We are grateful for all donations.

Bridge of Faith

The Bridge of Faith Program is designed to provide a faith connection between a city parish and a suburban parish. This connection provides opportunities for: communication and visitation: for sharing and exchanging personal, spiritual, cultural, and financial resources; and for deepening understanding among individuals, families, and parish communities of various nationalities and races.

Our Mother of Good Counsel has established a Bridge of Faith relationship with two parish communities:

Please contact the Parish office by phone (610.525.0147) or email for more information.

Dolphin Ministry

This interfaith service program, begun and supported largely by the Episcopal Church, is designed to provide one-on-one service to residents in nursing homes. Members of our parish commit themselves to visit on a regular basis one person residing in a nearby Nursing Home in an effort to provide a compassionate presence and friendship to someone who has little or no family in the area. Please contact the Parish office by phone (610.525.0147) or email for more information.

Food & Clothing

Each Sunday, parishioners are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to church with them for those in need in our parish or community. Four times a year, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society conducts a clothing and house wares collection to which our parishioners donate items which they are no longer using. Please contact the Parish office by phone (610.525.0147) or email for more information.

Helping Other People in Emergencies (H.O.P.E.)

This parish-based program is composed of volunteers who give service to the homebound. Men and women are encouraged to help provide transportation, meals, and other services to those in need. Please contact the Parish office by phone (610.525.0147) or email for more information.

Inter-Hospitality Network (IHN)

Our Parish Community is part of this interfaith effort to provide temporary housing for homeless families for a week at a time every nine weeks. Volunteers are needed to prepare the families' living space in our Social Center, to cook one evening meal, to act as a host for the evening or overnight, and to pack up and deliver belongings on the following Sunday when families move to the next congregation. Please contact Sr. Anne Woodeshick by phone (610.525.0147 Ext 234) or email for more information.

THANK YOU!
