Why do we need to fix the roof now?
After 120 years of constant use, our church is in need of repairs. Most urgently, the roof needs to be replaced. ln recent years, our staff and outside contractors have worked hard to patch troublesome areas of the roof, but it is now clear that complete replacement of the roof is the only reasonable way forward. The photos in this brochure illustrate the need for the repairs.
Who is overseeing the repairs?
Mr. Charles McGarvey, the roofing consultant designated by the Archdiocese. Our roofing contractor is Jim Miller Roofing of Ardmore.
How was the contractor chosen?
The process of hiring the contractor was rigorous. We accepted three bids from Archdiocese-approved contractors that have worked on historic churches such as ours. After review by the parish finance council, we chose Miller considering cost, quality of work, and experience.
How long will the repairs take?
The roof portion of the project will take approximately 60 working days once the scaffolding has been erected. Other aspects of the project (e.g., masonry, exterior wall cleaning and coating, repair of window molding) will continue into the following months.
How much will this project cost?
We estimate that the roof replacement portion of the project will cost $950,000.
